House/Recreational Program Information:
Regardless of the age group, our programs are suitable for new as well as seasoned players. There is equal playing time for all players. It is never too late for your daughter to give softball a try!!!
U6:This is a developmental program focusing on the fundamental skills of the game including:hitting, catching, throwing and base running.Instead of a hard ball we use soft, light weight balls to make the girls more comfortable.Once the season starts there will be inter-squad scrimmages.
Instruction is provided by the coaches supplemented with clinics taught by former college softball players.
Practices are held one week night and Saturday mornings for 1.5 to 2 hrs. After opening day Saturday will be used for the scrimmages.During the week the practice is usually held on Friday nights beginning at 6pm.Saturday’s usually begin at 9am.The days and times are subject to change as they are coach dependent.
Ballantine Field and Settlers Park are utilized for the Southbury teams.Ledgewood or Meadowview are used for Middlebury teams. This assumes that we have enough girls to split the teams, which is always our goal.
U8:Same as U6 with more advanced skills being taught. There are games each Saturday morning. Some of these games may be with Woodbury.
U10:The players are introduced to pitching, catching, stealing and bunting. The games are competitive.Practices are held one weeknight and Saturday until games begin.Once games start there will be a game during the week and another on the weekend. An additional practice may be added at the coach’s discretion.
U12 & U14:These age groups are still instructional.Practice and game schedules are the same as U10.
Travel Program:
U10 travel team try-outs will be held shortly after the House season begins. For those players that want a longer season with more competitive games and an opportunity to further hone their skills this is a great opportunity. The girls will play approximately 12 games in the Fairfield league (some of these will be double headers). 1/2 of these games will be out of town. They will also play in 2 tournaments during July. They will have 2 to 3 practices per week. The season ends 7/31.
We also have U12, U14 and U16 travel teams. Their try-outs are typically held in August for the following year, but we still have openings for the 2012 season on the U14 and U16 teams. If interested please email us at the address below.
